Tell us about your background & career journey

I bring a diverse and well-rounded background, having previously worked in both sports coaching and engineering. Alongside my studies at the University of Strathclyde, these experiences have equipped me with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. While insurance is a new field for me, I see that as a real strength - I approach it with fresh perspective, curiosity and a strong willingness to learn.

From my very first week, I’ve been energised by the collaborative environment at Talbot Jones. The support and mentorship from the team, combined with hands-on experience with systems, client work and professional development, have made it clear that this is a place where I can grow quickly and add real value.

What is your motivation for moving into insurance, and why did you choose this role?

I wanted a career with genuine long-term progression, where the work involves building real relationships rather than just processing transactions. Insurance turned out to fit that description better than I expected.

Talbot Jones came up in conversations with people I trust. The reputation was consistent: a client-first approach, a team that takes professional development seriously, and a business where integrity is not just something on a wall. That was enough for me.

KENDO!

What professional style have you adopted and what has influenced this?

Clear and honest communication - especially in person. I think that is where trust is built, and trust is what this work is about.

I am still developing my confidence across different situations, including over the phone, but I am motivated by the chance to meet clients and build working relationships that last. My goal is to become someone that clients know they can rely on - for professional services firms, charities and community organisations, and businesses of all kinds.

I take being thorough seriously. I would rather take a little longer and get something right than rush and leave someone uncertain.

What do you think of our values of Community, Excellence and Integrity?

They are not hard to get behind - they describe how I want to work anyway.

The part I find most interesting is community. I think there is something important about a business that genuinely knows the people it works with, and the places it operates in. I would love to see Talbot Jones continue to build on that reputation locally - as a business that is trusted, approachable, and actually useful to the organisations it serves.

I also enjoy being part of the day-to-day community in the office - getting to know colleagues and the businesses around us. That side of working life matters more than people sometimes acknowledge.

What’s your connection to the North East?

Having grown up in the North East, returning after my time in Glasgow has been incredibly rewarding. While I valued my experience studying at the University of Strathclyde, it’s great to be back in a city I know so well.

Newcastle offers a unique combination of friendliness, energy, and opportunity, and being close to family again has given me a strong sense of balance, both professionally and personally.

Tell us about something that’s important to you:

I’m a firm believer that the small things matter, and for me, that includes a good cup of tea. It’s a simple ritual, but one that reflects my approach more broadly: steady, reliable, and quietly committed to doing things well (Although I am still working on converting my colleagues!)

What are your final thoughts on joining the team, and embarking on a new career journey?

I hope to be seen as someone who is approachable, dependable, and genuinely committed to helping others. My aim is always to put clients first. listening carefully, communicating clearly and ensuring they feel confident and supported.

I also value openness and feedback. Building trust is a two-way process, and I want clients and colleagues alike to feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, asking questions, and working together to achieve the best possible outcomes.
