Let's get this HIIT started

Every year I watch the Great North Run (GNR) with tears in my eyes, a hoarse throat from shouting encouragements, and sore hands from hours of persistent clapping.

It is a day of victory:

  • Professional runners striving for gold, showing skill, determination, and perseverance.

  • Visually impaired and wheelchair racers overcoming obstacles.

  • Keen runners committing to healthy habits despite busy schedules.

  • Warriors and celebrators facing illness and challenging themselves.

  • Mourners and grievers running in memory of loved ones.

  • The comic costumes, bucket rattlers, and the riot of celebration, greatness, and excellence.

Each year I think, “I’d love to be part of that!” Yet, every year, I end up eating chips and watching Netflix.

A Personal Challenge

Last year was different. I watched alone because my husband cannot run or walk far due to Chronic Compartment Syndrome, a condition he developed while in the army. Running the GNR was once his ambition, and now watching it is a painful reminder of that loss.

Since launching our business, we’ve made progress in managing his pain, but it remains a daily reality.

As our children grow, I realise that the role of healthy role model now falls to me. I want to:

  • Encourage them to look after their health.

  • Undertake personal challenges.

  • Teach perseverance, commitment, and dedication.

Running for Charity

I decided to train for the GNR not only for my husband and children but also for charity. Choosing the right cause was important, and I selected Heel and Toe.

Heel and Toe supports local children with disabilities, helping them receive the care, support, and resources they need to thrive. Their impact is incredible, and I encourage you to read some of their amazing stories.

So, I am running:

  • For my husband

  • For my children

  • For Heel and Toe Charity

  • And for myself

This is my first major physical challenge, and it’s a chance to appreciate my healthy body, which I’ve long taken for granted.

Marking Our Business Birthday

I set this challenge to celebrate our business’ 2nd birthday, aiming to raise £200. Every donation counts, whether it’s £2, £22, £222, or any amount in between.

You can donate here: JustGiving – Talbot Jones

Thank you from all of us at TJRS and the amazing children supported by Heel and Toe, who face challenges, defy odds, and show resilience and determination every day.
